Deane Flagen

Leslie Deane “Deane” Flagen, 77, died April 11, 2026, at Roosevelt Medical Center in Culbertson.

He was born on July 9, 1949, in Williston, N.D., to Forrest and Viola Flagen. He spent much of his childhood on the family farm just west of Froid, where he attended Froid Public Schools and graduated from Froid High School in 1967.

During his school years, he enjoyed playing basketball and singing in the choir. He remained a lifelong fan of high school sports, especially the Froid Cardinals, later the Froid/Medicine Lake Redhawks. Even after his children had grown and were no longer involved in school activities, he faithfully followed along on the radio or online and never missed a game.

He married Twila Jean Waller on Nov. 7, 1976, and together they built a life in Homestead, where they raised their children.

Throughout his life, he worked in many roles, including farming, ranch work, serving as a mail carrier and bus driver, managing a service station and working as an auto mechanic. He later transitioned into bookkeeping at Farmer’s Union Oil Company/Agland in Froid, where he worked for over 20 years before retiring in May 2014. Even in retirement, he enjoyed occasionally delivering mail to stay active and connected to his community.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He kept a photo album filled with memories of his trophies and the many trips he took over the years. It was a treasured collection he loved to share with others. These experiences brought him
