Today is a historic day in America as the four astronauts, Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, Mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen splashed down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego at 5:07 pacific time. They had travelled a historic 694,481 miles from Kennedy Space Center, April 1, to circle the moon and back, the first time since 1972. Some of us remember the first moon landing, and it’s special to see the events and see them safely home. What a day for current events!

We see tractors being prepared for spring planting and tree hedges being worked. The birds are singing even though it’s still fluctuating temps and we’re not that sure we have seen the end of winter.

The Montana High School Association announced the winners of the 2026 Stockman Bank Team Sportsmanship Award at the MHSA Boys Basketball State Tournaments! “In Partnership with Stockman Bank and the Montana High School Association, this award recognizes teams that demonstrate respect, integrity, and positivity throughout postseason competition. Congratulations to this year’s honorees: Class AA – Missoula Big Sky Eagles, Class A – Beaverhead County Beavers, Class B – Harlem Wildcats, Class C – Lustre Christian Lions. These programs set the standard for sportsmanship on and off the court.”

All the math students in junor high and high school competed in the MCTM Math Contest in Plentywood recently. Other schools participating were Opheim, Glasgow, Plenywood, Frontier and Circle. LGS Principal Jeanne Matthyser said “The results are out and I could not be more proud of all seventh- eighth grade students and their incredible teacher, Mrs. Mullet.”

The tests were divided into 7-8th, 9-10th, 11-12th levels. Harlo Reddig and Liam Reneke of LGS tied for first place with a girl from Glasgow, in Applications and Problem Solving, with Justin Schiller placing fifth. In the Content Knowledge section, Harlo Reddig earned first place, Justin Schiller second place, and Coleman Hilkemann third place. In the Composite scoring, first place went to Harlo Reddig, Justin Schiller tied for second and Liam Reyneke took fourth place. The Lustre Grade School team 1 (Harlo Reddig, Justin Schiller, Coleman Hilkemann and Gunner Damboise) placed first – Gold!

In the high school results, teacher Lisa Neufeld reported Monica Uy tied for fourth in Applications and Problem Solving with Kate Nasner of Circle, in the grades 9-10 top 10 percentile – Gold level. Lauryn Holzrichter placed in the top scorers for grades 1112, placing second in a sevenway tie. Wheeler Damboise (9/10th grade), Lauryn Holzrichter (11-10th grade), and Grace Byers (9-10th grade) earned the bronze level.

Johnslee Pierre and Cam Reddig were named to the Class C All star team playing that weekend in the Hiline Basketball Tournament at Havre. They beat the B allstar team, but lost to the AA and A All Star teams. The tournament involved state wide players.

District Music Festival is April 17-18, and spring music Concert is scheduled for April 29.

We were saddened by the passing of Brent Hintz of Billings on April 4, Easter Saturday. We give condolences to his family, particularly his wife Lorene who grew up in Lustre.
