The Wolf Point High School golf program is seeing its best turnout in several seasons heading into the campaign.

The squad features 10 boys and six girls. Coach Rodney Paulson said several of the boys started to play last summer and became more interested in the sport.

“When they got out and played in the summer, they got an itch to keep golfing,” Paulson explained.

Returning letterwinners for the boys are Chaz Kegley, Conway Turcotte and William Schwarzrock. They were each young golfers last season and gained experience throughout the year.

Paulson also feels some of the new boys might have good seasons after enjoying success in other sports.

“I think we have some guys that we can mold into golfers,” Paulson said.

Leading the girls’ team are freshmen Maia Kent and McKinlee Paulson. Kent qualified for the state tournament last season while Paulson barely missed advancing.

The Wolves will open their season either in Glasgow on April 11 or Wolf Point on April 18.

Wolf Point will host the divisional tournament on May 12-13.

“It will be nice to play on a familiar course,” Coach Paulson said of having the divisional tournament in Wolf Point. The top 15 golfers qualify for the state meet.
