Local Student Places In Keep Montana Green Contest

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Northeastern Land Office announces 12 students in grades K-12 have earned top prizes in the Keep Montana Green northeastern regional art contest and will advance to the statewide competition.

This year’s regional contest received 423 entries from 17 schools in central and northeast Montana, showcasing students’ creativity in promoting wildland wildfire prevention. The theme of this year’s art contest was “Hot and Windy, Fire Moves Quickly!”

Northeast Montana regional winners include: Primary Division, Grades K-3: First Place – Finn Sweeney, third grade, Highland Park Elementary, Lewistown Second Place – Whyley Sanofsky, third grade, Hobson School, Hobson Third Place – Willow Britch, first grade, Hinsdale School, Hinsdale Honorable Mentions – Jordan C. Stahl, first grade, Gildford Colony Elementary, Gildford; Grace R. Stahl, first grade, Gildford Colony Elementary School Gildford; Asher Naujoks, third grade, Lavina Public School, Lavina Intermediate Division, Grades 4-6: First Place – Sam Kellom, fifth grade, Central Montana Homeschool, Hobson Second Place – Andrea Sanchez, fourth grade, Hinsdale School, Hinsdale Third Place – Jaxon Roseleip, sixth grade, Medicine Lake School, Medicine Lake Honorable Mentions – Rachel Pipestem, sixth grade, Wolf Point School, Wolf Point; Weston Maki, fourth grade, Lavina Public School, Lavina; Harper Mauws, sixth grade, Stanford Public School, Stanford Junior Division, Grades 7-9: First Place – Treg Roche, eighth grade, Lewistown Junior High, Lewistown Second Place – Marquell Houle, ninth grade, Big Sandy Public Schools, Big Sandy Third Place – Lexie Jones, eighth grade, Big Sandy Public Schools, Big Sandy Honorable Mentions – Archer Schwomeyer, eighth grade, Lewistown Junior High, Lewistown; Logan Kellom, eighth grade, Central Montana Home School, Hobson; Dani Antonich, eighth grade, Stanford Public School, Stanford Senior Division, Grades 1012: First Place – Korbyn Jurenka, tenth grade, Big Sandy Public Schools, Big Sandy Second Place – Heather Sherburn, twelfth grade, Big Sandy Public Schools, Big Sandy Third Place – Harley LaBuda, eleventh grade, Big Sandy Public Schools, Big Sandy Honorable Mentions – Carley Weber, 10th grade, Fort Benton High School, Fort Benton; Taylor Kellom, 10th grade, Central Montana Home School, Hobson; Samantha Bjornestad, 11th grade, Big Sandy Public Schools, Big Sandy Keep Montana Green is an annual art contest that helps teach K-12 students about wildfire prevention and fire safety. In addition to the art contest, Keep Montana Green provides education and resources to community members of all ages, designed to help Montanans reduce wildfire risk and protect the landscapes they love.
