Denny Runs As Write-in Candidate For School Board

Holly Denny is the lone write-in candidate to serve District 5 on the Wolf Point School Board.

No one officially filed to be on the ballot during the filing period.

Denny has served as the chair of the Wolf Point Community Organization for the past two years. She has also been a chair of Wolf Point School’s JOM committee for two years.

The 2009 Wolf Point High School graduate has three children in the Wolf Point School District.

She is currently the assistant prosecutor for the Fort Peck Tribes. She previously was the clerk of courts for the tribes.

“I’m running because I want to work closely with our administration and figure out new ways to bring students back to school,” Denny said.

Another attraction was serving with board chair Roxanne Gourneau, who is Denny’s aunt. She has also followed Gourneau’s footsteps on other committees.

“I’m always willing to learn from her,” Denny said.

The candidate feels the school district’s biggest challenge is the drop-out rate.

Other challenges are alcohol use, drug use and bullying.

“Kids don’t want to go to school because of bullying,” Denny said.

Ballots will be mailed Friday, April 17, by the Wolf Point School District.
