Commissioners Approve Equipment Purchases

Roosevelt County commissioners approved the purchase of a skid steer sander during their weekly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 23. Cost of the spreader sidewalk kit is $5,400.

Commissioner Robert Toavs explained that the sander could help with possible liability issues. He said that once an employee gets on the parking lot, it’s the county’s responsibility. The sander will be beneficial on both the parking lots and sidewalks.

“Hopefully, it can be sanded before the employees come to work,” Toavs said.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of two pickups for the county’s road department. Total cost is $95,000 for the two 2026 Ram 2500 Crew Cab 4X4 pickups from Northern Prairie Auto Sales.

“It’s been quite a while since the road department has rotated vehicles in,” Toavs said.

Commissioners approved of the Bainville Rural Fire District’s request to purchase a pickup topper. The fire district generates its own funds and the purchase falls in its budgets.

Commissioners approved of the Culbertson Public Library adding from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month to its hours. The librarian will adjust her hours in order to cover Saturday’s duties. Crafting and other programming will be offered.

Roosevelt County Librarian Janet Livingston discussed a possible adult oil painting and watercolor class that two individuals want to offer on Wednesday nights. Commissioners said that the library couldn’t be used for the classes because it’s not a county function. An outside group can rent the building if they have liability insurance. The basement can’t be used because its not handicapped accessible.

Oelkers said the classes are a good idea, but details need to be worked out.

Reappointed to the weed board were Gregg Labatte and Gary Hanson. Ken Lansrud and Brian Miller were reappointed to the Wolf Point TV district board.

Jace Johnson was hired as a full-time deputy for the sheriff’s office. Charles Pribbernow was moved from a temporary to a full-time road department employee.
