After earning the second-place trophy at the divisional meet last season, Poplar’s girls’ wrestling squad is working for success again this campaign.

Replacing graduated state champion Angelina Escarcega will be a tough task, but the Indians do return five wrestlers that lettered last season.

Alara Cooper placed sixth at the state meet last year. “We’re looking to improve on her sixth place at state this year,” Poplar Coach Jason Frederick said.

Liberty Boadle and Laitlyn Allen each placed second place at the divisional meet last season. Stacey Simons took seventh placed at the divisional meet in 2025. Mesina Youpee also has varsity wrestling experience.

Top wrestlers returning for Poplar’s boys are Rollen Spotted Bull, Jayden Eder, Mickey Failing, Memphis Mathison and Dustin Smith.

Frederick noted a couple of boys who wrestled in middle school are now returning to the sport.

“We’re going to roll with it and see how we can improve,” Frederick said of the upcoming season.
