TEB Rescinds Health Services Decision
After the former Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board made a resolution to contract with Indian Health Service’s programs beginning in December, the current TEB voted to rescind the resolution during its meeting on Monday, Nov. 10.
TEB member Adrian Spotted Bird made the motion that was seconded by TEB member Vernice Chopper. Voting in favor were George Blount, Jestin Dupree, Michael Headdress, Spotted Bird, Marva Chapman, Chopper, Darren Long Hair and Melvin Scott III. Opposing the measure were Barry Bighorn Sr. and Roxanne Gourneau.
The resolution also states that the board approves of stopping any future contracting of the Indians Health Service programs.
Prior to the vote, Gourneau noted there wasn’t any documentation provided to support or rationale the proposal.
Other TEB members said factors included not having the infrastructure ready.
Chairman Floyd Azure said that people can vote against the proposal if that’s their wish. He said the board hasn’t needed to provide reports or information regarding a vote throughout the years.
