The fall days have become brisk with temperatures ranging in the 30-40s. Northern lights continue to grace the skies at night and they reflect the creative handiwork of the way north, sometimes including the ice ravines.

The youth of our community have been kept occupied with school, Awana and the sports activities. Wednesday was Character Day at Awana and students dressed up as a Bible character.

The Jamboree (grades three-six) and Junior High (grades seven and eight) boys’ and girls’ basketball teams played against Frontier School at the LCHS gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The younger ones are improving over last year in good measure, but were still not able to defeat their opponents. The junior high teams, however, were full of energy and the boys, coached by Randy Reddig, won 34-25 in a well-fought game. The girls especially, played as a team. Coached by Lisa Neufeld, the girls won 34-28. Perhaps personal highlights were threes made by Jake Neufeld, Drew Reddig and Aubrey Klatt. It was neat to see a Frontier student get a three from just over center court at the buzzer and it went sailing in!

The LCHS volleyball team won their match against Nashua at the District Class C volleyball tournament on Thursday noon 3 to 1, lost against Circle 0 to 3, at 4 p.m. and played again Friday at noon against Frazer. The girls won 3 -0 in this match to earn a place in the semi-finals, when they play Scobey at 6 p.m. on Friday and lost.
