The Poplar Indians earned a victory at the district volleyball tournament by edging Plentywood, 26-24, 23-25, 2514, 20-25, 15-11, on Friday, Oct. 31.

The Indians trailed by a 2421 margin in the first set until aces by Jayda Falcon led Poplar to a 25-24 advantage.

Poplar scored the final point on a kill by Lilliana O’Neal.

A spike by Toni Brown and an ace by Falcon put the Indians ahead 23-22 in the second set, but Plentywood tallied the last three points of the game.

Ahead by an 18-14 margin in the third set, the Indians struck for the final seven points of the set. Leading the way were ace serves by Braelyn Nordwick and blocks by Falcon and O’Neal.

After the Wildcats won the fourth set, action was close in the fifth set until kills by Nordwick and Fourbear put the Indians ahead 12-8.

Poplar went on to take a 14-8 advantage, but Plentywood fought back to 14-11. The Indians then earned the final point for the victory.

In a match to decide a divisional tournament berth, the Indians just fell short against Harlem, 18-25, 16-25, 25-23, 2518, 12-15.

After losing the first two sets, the Indians trailed 21-17 in the third set until kills by Nordwick cut the gap to 2120. An ace by Falcon and two net winners by O’Neal produced a 23-21 lead. With Poplar leading by a 24-23 margin, Nordwick scored a kill to end the third set.

In the fourth set, the Indians jumped out to a 17-9 advantage.

Ahead by a 23-18 margin, Poplar scored the final two points on a kill by Fourbear and an ace by Brow.

The Indians trailed 12-9 in the fifth set but Poplar fought back with a kill by Nordwick and two aces by Brown for a 12-12 deadlock.

Harlem struck for the last three points for the victory.
