Sharon Red Thunder
Sharon Faye Red Thunder, 80, of Poplar died Oct. 6, 2025, in Poplar.
She was born on May 24, 1945, in Poplar to Jeanette Cloud and Lester (Jim) Youpee Sr. Shewas raised in Brockton and Poplar and was a 1963 graduate of Brockton High School.
She married Calvin Red Thunder Sr. on Dec. 12, 1967, in Wolf Point. They lived in Brockton and Poplar eventually made their home in Poplar. She had five children: Sheldon Youpee, Calvin Jr., Denise, Angeline and her grandson Jared Standing, whom she raised as her son.
She worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the Probate Department for over 20 years and retired in 2003. She also sat on the enrollment committee for several years.
She started the Turns Around Pow Wow 18 years ago and was still very active as a committee member until her death.
She ran for the Tribal Executive Board in 2003 and served for two years. She loved her community, the people and thought the best way to serve them was to serve on the tribal board. She also sat on the Poplar Community Organization board for over 10 years.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and riding around with family. She loved to travel and went to Las Vegas and many other places.
She is survived by her daughter, Angeline; son, Calvin “Chick” Jr.; a grandson she raised, Jared Standing; sisters, Kate Youpee, Millie Runs Through and Jamie Youpee; and numerous grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Red Thunder Sr.; daughter, Denise Red Thunder; son, Sheldon Youpee; brothers; Joe, Russell ”Gus,” Gary, Lester “Big Son” Jr., Bob Sr. and Tommy; sisters, Dolly Boyd, Linda Red Boy and Delores Red Boy; and infant granddaughter, Tiffany Rae Youpee.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Interment was at the Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point was entrusted with the arrangements.
