The Wolf Point Wolves suffered a 28-0 homecoming defeat against Conrad in Class B football action on Friday, Sept. 26.

The Wolves’ defense created two turnovers early in the contest, but Wolf Point was unable to cash the plays in for any points.

First, Chasan Welch recovered a fumble at the Conrad 46 to end the Cowboys’ first offensive possession. An eight-yard dash by quarterback Kasey Reed produced a first down at the Conrad 34, but the threat ended with two straight incompletions.

Later in the quarter, K. Reed intercepted a pass on the Wolves’ 44. Gains by Jesse Reed and K. Reed put the ball into Conrad territory, but the Wolves fumbled the ball on a fourth-and-one attempt.

The Cowboys took advantage by using runs by Evan Walter and Reece Taylor to march into Wolf Point territory. A strong defensive play by Wolf Point’s senior defensive tackle Da’Shaun Jackson helped forced Conrad into a fourth-and-17 situation, but a diving catch by Noah Walter kept the Cowboys’ drive alive at the four.

Another strong play by Jackson stopped the Cowboys at the three on second down, but Conrad then scored on a pass from Evan Walter to N. Walter to open the second quarter. Reece Taylor’s kick put the score at 7-0.

On their next possession, the Wolves accounted for an offensive highlight when K. Reed connected with tight end Sean Hamilton for a 43yard completion to the Conrad 45. A nice run by J. Reed was good for a first down at the 31, but penalties stalled the drive.

The Cowboys then put together a 91-yard scoring drive. Conrad reached the end zone on a 28-yard pass from E. Walter to Jonah Volk with seven seconds left in the half. Taylor added the kick for a 14-0 margin.

Wolf Point opened the second half with a nice drive featuring the running skills of Point was able to get as deep as the Conrad 29 on the possession before turning the ball over on downs. Conrad then scored on a 20yard run by Ledger Martin with 4:05 remaining in the third quarter. The kick by Taylor put the score at 21-0.

Wolf Point drove as deep as the Conrad 15 in the fourth quarter, but an interception by Caleb Walter ended the threat.

Conrad’s final touchdown came on a 75-yard dash by Martin with 3:23 remaining.

The Wolves will head to Glasgow on Friday, Oct. 3. The Scotties are coming off a 34-21 victory over Fairfield.
