Women’s Self Defense Seminar Planned In Wolf Point
Area women are encouraged to attend a women’s self defense and awareness seminar in Wolf Point on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Sarah Torres, one of the instructors of the event, said a seminar will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wolf Point’s community center. A light lunch will be provided. Then, questions and answers are scheduled from 3-4 p.m.
“We will touch on all types of abuse and prevention,” Torres, who is co-owner of Glasgow Combat Sports, said. She mentioned financial awareness and emotional abuse.
Torres explained the seminar is educational based to bring awareness and prevention of abuse.
Physical demonstrations will include what to do if someone tries to shove you in a vehicles or throws you against a wall.
Torres, a survivor of abuse, said she also wants women to know what to expect regarding the legal process after being abused. “I have been on the inside. That’s why I’m doing this. I want to give the women here the resources that they need. It allows women to know what to expect.”
There is no cost for the seminar, which is open to women of all ages.
These are conversations that daughters need to hear, Torres said.
She said the community, including the Red Bird Woman Center, have donated items for the seminar so T-shirts and the meal can be purchased. Torres hopes it become an annual event in Wolf Point.
RSVP is appreciated but not mandatory to attend the seminar.
