Man Faces Third Aggravated DUI Charge

Lawrence Joseph Morin is facing the charge of aggravated driving under the influence, third offense, in District Court.

According to court records, a tribal officer observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway on Anaconda Street East in Wolf Point on Aug. 1 at about 11:43 p.m. The officer then observed the vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and heading eastbound while in the westbound lane.

After the tribal officer activated his overhead emergency lights to start a traffic stop, the vehicle slowed down but continued to travel nearly to the end of the street. The vehicle then came to a stop.

During the initial contact with Morin, the officer observed slowed fine motor skills, slurred speech and an odor commonly associated with alcoholic beverages.

Later, Morin refused to submit to doing standard field sobriety tests. Morin was then handcuffed and placed in the backseat of a patrol vehicle.

After a county deputy read the implied consent advisory to Morin and confirmed that he understood the consequences of not providing a breath or blood sample, Morin eventually agreed to provide a breath sample.

Because the breath intoxilyzer wasn’t working, Morin agreed to a blood sample at the Wolf Point hospital. He was later transported to his residence.

On Aug. 20, the toxicology report from the Montana Department of Justice Forensic Science Division showed an alcohol concentration of 0.231.
