Frazer student Takoa Old Person continues to record success through the National History Day program.

Old Person took fourth place in the preliminary round for best senior paper at the National History Day National Contest held at the University of Maryland.

The student’s paper described how the 1924 Snyder Act, also known as the Indian Citizenship Act, provided Native Americans with birthright citizenship, something denied to them by the 14th Amendment. Old Person noted that although the act granted citizenship, the U.S. government’s responsibility to protect Native people’s full citizenship rights went unfulfilled for many years after granting Indian citizenship.

Frazer’s Mary Zuchowski was selected the Senior Division Montana National History Day Teacher of the Year nominee.

National History Day is a nationally recognized academic enrichment program that promotes the study of history in schools. Modeled after science fairs, it encourages students to take a creative approach to studying history, fostering critical thinking and research skills.
