Trustees Approve Budgets For School Year
The Wolf Point School Board approved both the elementary and high school budgets for the year during its meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
The elementary budget is $5,775,893.63. That figure is a little higher than last year’s amount of $5,359,846.35. The budget includes a general fund increase from $3,569,508.52 to $3,821,795.73.
Wolf Point’s high school budget is $4,235,181.32 compared to $4,234.994.26 last year. The general fund’s increase was $2,339,858.53 to $2,385,443.95.
The school board and Wolf Point Education Association officially agreed on the ratification of their new contract. The salary schedule will feature a base salary of $38,396 for a 5 percent pay increase for 20252026. The salary increase would be 3 percent for 2026-2027 and 2 percent for 2027-2028.
“Our union members voted yes to the contract,” Education association president Patricia Toavs said regarding a vote that occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Resignations or retirements were listed for Southside paraprofessional Katrina Hines, attendance secretary Macy LaPlante, Northside paraprofessional Jubilee Tapaha and high school opportunity learning center teacher Joyce “Cookie” Ragland.
Hired were A’Mare Martell as Northside paraprofessional, Melanie Nelson as attendance secretary, Brianna Perkins as Northside paraprofessional, John Plestina as substitute teacher and Lasty Mendoza as junior high substitute teacher and custodian.
Extra-curricular hires included Leslie Larson as food pantry coordinator; Grant Legare for early identification system; Joelle Page as 504 coordinator; Cheryl Taylor as McKinney vento liaison; Toavs as special education director; Sen Pin Andrew Vun as school psychologist; Michael Keefner for pep band, Madrigal, band and chorus extra; Bridget Drummond as accompanist; Charlie Page as junior high football assistant; and Laura Ricker as junior high cross country assistant.
Trustees Michael Turcotte and Michael Holen were appointed to the policy committee.
Trustees reviewed and approved handbooks for each school.
A memorandum of agreement was approved with the Fort Peck Tribes’ HPDP to supply health services. HPDP will have rooms at Southside School, the high school and the former administration building across the street from Northside School.
