Frontier Days Weekend Concludes With Smiles

Two nights of rodeo action saw a strong turnout at the Culbertson Saddle Club arena during the Frontier Days Rodeo June 13-14. Events included exhibitions and competition in bareback riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding, as well as trick riding exhibitions during intermission on both nights and Wild Calf races Friday and Saturday.
Corresponding events included a street dance in front of the Montana Bar with Ashlee Anderson and the Richland County Playboys, who performed downtown Friday night. Attendees danced and enjoyed the music well into the evening. Another dance was hosted at the Saddle Club after Saturday’s rodeo.
Saturday’s events and activities started off with the annual breakfast fundraiser for the Culbertson Volunteer Fire Department at the Culbertson School cafeteria. Department members donned aprons and served pancakes, sausage and eggs to area residents.
The weather was pleasant both days, with attendees commenting on somewhat chilly conditions Friday. Skies were sunny all day Saturday, which featured Culbertson Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture’s annual parade down Broadway Avenue.
This year saw entries from local banks and credit unions, charitable organizations, businesses, individuals in classic cars and an array of tractors and other agricultural vehicles. Several historical conveyances were entered, including a horse and buggy and the Saddle Club’s stagecoach. The Culbertson High School Class of 1975 had a packed float.
The Culbertson Women’s Club hosted its annual lunch on Broadway Avenue during a banner year for the group, which has included groundbreaking on the municipal pool bathhouse project and kudos from Culbertson Saddle Club members, who dedicated the 2025 rodeo program to the organization, writing, “Their acts of service began in 1925 when they established the Culbertson Public Library for the community and continued their support with an annual pie social which they still host each year in May. In 1971, they raised $12,535 to help build the current swimming pool. This project remains near and dear to their hearts as they have raised over $300,000 in the last 10 years to help build a new pool house.”
Following the parade and luncheon, root beer floats were served during a fundraiser event at the Culbertson Museum.
