Kevin Ronning

Kevin Ronning, 53, of Grenora, N.D., most recently of Plentywood, died May 23, 2025.

Hen was born Dec. 20, 1971, in Williston, N.D., to Kennet and LaVonne (Haugen) Ronning. He was the third of five children. He was raised on the farm east of Froid and attended Froid Public School from kindergarten through his senior year in 1991.

He was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome at six months of age. Kennet and LaVonne raised him as the rest of their children. He was raised to be self-sufficient. He was disciplined, teased and loved just as the other siblings were.

The community of Froid, the school faculty and students treated him as an equal. He attended Special Education classes and became close with those teachers. He was proud to be a Froid Cardinal. He loved his classmates and his teachers. His school years were some of the most memorable of his life. From junior high through high school, he also participated in track, basketball and bowling while in Special Olympics.

In high school, he worked at the Froid Grocery and helped with kitchen and janitorial work at the school.

He moved to Williston, N.D., in the fall of 1991. He lived in his own apartment and, at one point, held down three jobs. He worked at Pamida, County Market and Super 8. While in Williston, he gained more friends. He was a good cook and would invite neighbors and family friends over for his homemade meals. He enjoyed activities in Williston, especially attending the county fair with his friends. While living in Williston, he was very active in the Lutheran Brethren Church.

He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and knew the Lord’s Prayer and Table Grace
