WPCO Approves Funds For Area Youth

The Wolf Point Community Organization kept giving to the community during its monthly meeting held on Monday, May 19.

WPCO president Holly Hamilton announced that WPCO will provide $125 to each Wolf Point High School graduate this year. In addition, WPCO will donate $75 to each Wolf Point junior high school graduate and Frontier eighth-grade graduate.

Recipients of the WPC0 scholarships are Chase Adams and Ameliya Doney.

Yellow Jacket softball coach Bif Loucks provided information regarding the program’s needs for funding. The softball program doesn’t receive money from the city. WPCO members decided to donate $3,000 each to the Yellow Jackets and Bumble Bees programs.

Hamilton said that discussion regarding the Fort Peck Housing Authority’s situation won’t take place at the meeting. “There’s always two sides,” Hamilton said.

A petition for amendment regarding the addition of a housing commissioner for the Frontier community was tabled.

During the Tribal Executive Board report, Roxanne Gourneau said that Fort Peck Inc. made the loan for the new casino in Poplar. “It’s not a giveaway,” she said. Gourneau said profits will help in areas such as veterans and medical travel.

Gourneau, who is the Wolf Point School Board chair, said attendance has been a positive this school year. “Kids are going to school,” she said.

She added that officials are still researching building a new school in Wolf Point. “But it takes time,” Gourneau said.
