Wolf Point School Board trustees were sworn into office for new terms during the meeting on Monday, May 12.

Taking the oath of office were Liara Braaten for district 1, Roxanne Gourneau for district 2, Michael Holen for district 3 and Keith Higgins for the at-large position.

Gourneau was voted as the board’s chair and Higgins was voted as the board’s vice chair. The board appointed Demi Wilkinson as district clerk and Naomi Erickson as board secretary.

Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins said the number of open teaching positions is decreasing. Among the positions still needed are band/choir teacher and vo-ag teacher.

Perkins said the feeling is that school districts will continue to receive federal impact aid funding. He explained as long as impact aid stays with the Department of Defense, schools will probably be OK as far as cuts. If impact aid goes to the Department of the Interior, cuts might occur. “The construction grants will most likely stay in the half a million to $2 million range,” Perkins said. “Construction will probably have to be done through borrowing from impact aid.”
