Southside After-school Program Remains Valuable

Southside Elementary School’s after-school program concluded another successful year to aid in the education of some of Wolf Point’s youngest students last week.
Amanda Campbell, one of the program’s instructors, said daily attendance was an average of 40 students for the twice a week program.
“Sixty was our highest,” Campbell said.
Class subjects include science, robotics, book club, culture and physical education. Students rotate between two spots each day. During one day last week, students were excited about the opportunity of making slime in their science class.
The program is for students in grades 1-3.
“One of our biggest goals was that we had kids required to come because we wanted to bump our their math scores,” Campbell explained. “We want to push their test scores and give added instruction to some kids.”
Activities included the Lil Wolves’ program, which covers Wolf Point’s sports offerings.
“They have fun and we are also pushing doing community sports,” Campbell said.
The after-school program begins with each of the students enjoying a healthy snack.
Students DaVeigha Hernandez, Jermone Follet and Matthew Mendez were recognized for having perfect attendance at the after-school program for the year.
