Some of Bainville High School’s students when the Montana National Guard mobile team conducted a Warrior Fit exercise in the gym on Thursday, April 24.
The eight fitness stations included plyo-jumps, push-up jumping jacks, jumping rope, burpees and Russian twist, kettleball squats and heavy rope swings. Students spend a minute at each of the stations. A total of 26 Bainville students took on the exhausting challenge.
Cody Welsh and Eric Howell were the mobile team representatives at the school. Welsh, who has been a part of the mobile team for two years, said their area covers the north and east sides of the state.
“It’s to get kids active and interested,” Welsh said. “We’re trying to make a presence.”
Welsh said recruiting for the Montana National Guard has been very successful this season. “Our numbers are going way up again.”
Staff Sgt. Doug Nordlund, a Wolf Point native who now resides in Malta, serves as the region’s National Guard recruiter. His area includes 18 high schools in northeastern Montana.
“Our goal with Warrior Fit is showing high school students a different side of the military,” Nordlund said. “We love our jobs. We can have fun.”
After the physical workout, Nordlund discussed with students the large amount of opportunities available through the National Guard.
“I took this job because I believe a lot of the opportunities offered,” Nordlund said. “This day is for the students to have fun.”
