Robert Elsen

Robert Elsen, 85, of Wolf Point died Aug. 9, 2026, in Billings.

He was born Oct. 17, 1940, in La Crosse, Wisc., the son of Ernie and Ethel Elsen. He grew up on a farm there.

In 1971, he moved to Portland, Ore., for more work. He was a sanitation worker for 20 years. He hurt his shoulder after so many years doing that job and the retrained him to work on a printing press, which was interesting because he couldn’t read or write. He was extremely intelligent because of his farm background and knew how to operate many different kinds of equipment.

He moved to Wolf Point in 2008 to raise cattle, horses and dogs. He worked for many different farmers in the area and for Associated Cleaning until recently.

He loved to fish, can vegetables, garden, cut grass and plow snow. He loved to work — he hated to sit in front of a TV all
