Nyquist Foundation Invites Local Students To Enter Essay Contest

Students in Froid and Culbertson have an opportunity to sharpen their writing and research skills while competing for cash prizes through the Nyquist Foundation’s 14th annual local essay contest.

The Culbertson Public Library is encouraging students in grades eight through 12 to participate. The first-place winner will receive $250, while the second-place winner will receive $150.

This year’s prompt asks students to choose a culture outside the United States and explore what their Montana community could learn from it. Essays may focus on education, traditions, community life or other aspects of the selected culture.

Students can strengthen their submissions by including properly formatted footnotes from credible research sources or interviewing someone who has lived in or visited the culture they are studying.

Completed essays must be submitted online at www.nyquistfdtn. org by Oct. 30. Formatting guidelines and additional contest information are also available on the foundation’s website.

Culbertson Public Library staff members are available to help students with essay formatting and research topics. The library also has resources available for checkout.

Contest organizers caution that the use of generative artificial intelligence or any language learning model during any stage of the writing process will result in disqualification from future contests.
