Daniels County Library Notes
My Life with Wolves by Rick McIntyre is a current non-fiction that has been added to our collection. This author is a retired park ranger and has authored other books about wolves for adults and children. His style of observation of these wolf packs is unique and stands him in good stead for other areas of his life.
This latest book focuses on the pack of Yellowstone and the Wolf 907. His observations include more that wolves, like Stony the bear, ground squirrels, moose and others.
The book covers many of the mannerisms of the wolf packs, such as where they prefer to den up when the new pups are born and the whole “family dynamics” thingy. He has a way with words, as he describes the way two bull moose face off, as walking like John Wayne.
Liberty Island by Virginia Hume is a new historical fiction by this best-selling author of Haven Point. This story centers on two women; Anna in 1900 and Julia in 1922. They are related, auntie and niece, to be exact. Anna is tasked with watching her niece and her friends in northern Maine for the summer. Anna is a free spirit, and society’s expectations have a tenuous hold on her.
The young girls spend their time running wild in the woods and on the rugged shore lines. This freedom is unheard of during this time frame and brought about tension between tradition and progress, idealism and reality.
They might be considered early feminists, and while some things have progressed by 1922, they are still fighting for equal rights. This lifestyle has caused a rift between Julia and her family. While enjoying her freedom on the coast, she will eventually have to come to terms with being born into one lifestyle, and striving for another.
Library hours are Monday- Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Story Hour will be Monday at 3 p.m. and Wednesday at 10 a.m. for ages 3-5 years old. Stories, songs and crafts.
Book Club is reading All the Colors of the Dark, by Chris Whitaker. This historical fiction thriller takes place in 1975 in Missouri. This is a story about trauma and obsession, with a love story throw in.
Patch Macauley is a local boy, who was born with only one eye. This becomes his symbol of resilience. An act of bravery sets in motion a chain of events that affects all of those around him.
His journey is a testament to his strong spirit, but he struggles with the shadows of obsession and the hope of a connection. The author delves into the ripple effects of trauma and the different ways people use to cope with fear and loss.
We will resume winter hours the week of Sept. 14. Hours will be Monday-Friday at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, we are open until 8 p.m. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. After- school programming will begin that week.

Book Worm Buddies, for grades K-sixth, will meet Sept. 16 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the library.
Cooking Club starts Sept. 17 and meet from 4-5:30 p.m.
Little Sprouts will meet Saturday, Sept. 19, at 9–9:30 a.m. Ages 0-3 years old.
