Scobey School Board Approves Purchases

The Scobey School Board took care of several items prior to the start of the school year during its meeting held on Aug. 11.

Superintendent of Schools Greg Hardy said the school district will feature two Filipino teachers this year. He picked them up from the airport and was impressed by them.

“I think they are going to be great,” Hardy said. “You can tell they want to do a good job.”

Hardy added that two more Filipino teachers, one for music and another for special education, will begin duties in Scobey after the school year begins.

Officials said there are about 12-15 new students attending school in Scobey this fall.

Trustees approved purchasing an e-rated bus from Fox Ford of Wolf Point. There is still about $151,000 remaining for bus purchases in that account.

Additional cameras and hardware for $12,396 were approved for purchase. Hardy explained the funds come from a state program. The addition should eliminate current blind spots at the school.

Also approved was the purchase of new student lockers. School personnel will install the new lockers.

The Scobey Booster Club will sell 50/50 tickets during home football games and volleyball matches this fall.

Trustees approved the purchase of new lunch tables for $9,536. Funds comes from school food money from previous years.

Trustees adopted the budget and approved the set operating resources for the new school year. The school district was able to keep its full reserve amount.

Also approved were board policy updates, handbook changes, attendance agreements and bus routes.

Valita Nelson was hired as the special education coordinator and testing proctor. Lynnsey Tade was hired as a bus driver.
