Runners Ready To Hit Their Stride
A new cross country season brings a mix of familiar faces and new opportunities as the Brockton team prepares to hit the course this fall.
Returning runners Daniel Youpee and Brae Demarrias will bring experience to this year’s team, while Maddie Fish also returns after seeing plenty of competition last season.
For Coach Dennis Fourbear, however, stepping into the season carries a little extra meaning. Having competed in cross country and becoming a state champion in 1984, coaching the sport has long been a personal goal.
“I am excited to work with the players,” the coach said. “It has always been a goal of mine after being in cross country and being a state champ in 1984.”
That experience gives Fourbear an opportunity to pass along lessons learned as a runner while helping a new generation of athletes develop their own skills and confidence on the course.
Competition should be strong throughout the season. Culbertson and Frazer are expected to be among the teams to watch as runners begin working toward meets later this fall.
With experienced runners returning and a coach excited to share a lifelong connection to the sport, the season ahead will be about more than finishing times. It will be an opportunity to grow, compete and see where the miles take them.
