Poplar’s Volleyball Squad Looks To Contend In District 2B
Poplar’s volleyball team opened its season with a good attitude as the Indians look forward to a successful campaign.
Poplar has a turnout of 31 girls including several who saw varsity experience last season.
Returning players include senior Channing First, junior libero Jacey Azure, junior MaKenzie Crawford, sophomore Carysn Fourbear and freshman Frankie Gourneau.
“We definitely have some strong hitters and have fight with our back-row players,” Coach Dusti Marottek said. “Everybody is positive and ready to play.”
The Indians will open their varsity schedule at Fairview on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
“Our goals are to have communication, work together as a team, have fun and stay positive,” Marottek said.
She doesn’t see a clear pre-season favorite in the District 2B standings.
“We never want to overestimate or underestimate anybody,” the coach said.
Marottek feels the Indians can place third or fourth in the league. Poplar has the advantage of hosting the district tournament this year.
“We have a new court. It’s awesome,” she said.
