Oelkers Appointed To National Boards

Roosevelt County Commissioner Gordon Oelkers has been appointed to two national committees by the president of the National Association of Counties.

Oelkers, the current president of the Montana Association of Counties, was selected the subcommittee vice chair for the finance, pensions and intergovernmental affairs policy steering committee and a member of the rural action caucus.

“You have been selected for this role because of your unwavering commitment and exemplary dedication to NACo. Our greatest strength lies in the engagement of our members, and your active participation and leadership are vital to ensuring that we remain the united voice of America’s counties,” wrote George Dunlap, president of the National Association of Counties.

During the commissioners’ weekly meeting held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, Commissioner Doug Marottek said the corn feed during the Roosevelt County Fair went well.

Oelkers reported that the fire restrictions remain in effect for Roosevelt County. He added that eight of 13 area counties are under some type of fire restrictions.

Commissioner Robert Toavs said that the county fair’s 4-H livestock sale featured 88 animals. That’s the most that he ever remembers at the annual sale.

Oelkers added that the new fair manager, Chelsie Flinn, did an excellent job.

The Brockton water system project is done except for one hydrant. The sewer project by the Fort Peck Tribes will start soon in Brockton.

Commissioners approved $66,000 to purchase culverts for the road department. Toews explained the culverts are to restock from what the road department used in the last year so that they are readily available if needed.

A copier was approved for the Roosevelt County library. Cost is $4,500 for the copier and $1,400 for toners.

Commissioners approved the installation of a vending machine in the courthouse. Items will include chips, candy bars and energy drinks.

Pay raises were approved for Helen Welte in the treasurers office and Alex Sutton for dispatch.
