Scobey Swimming Pool Enjoying Splash Of Good Year

The Scobey swimming pool, located at Roseland Park, is nearing the end of an outstanding summer season that included hosting a large divisional meet.

Shalice Maldonado, pool manager, said highlights of the summer included a party in the park held on July 16. That fun day featured a hot dog eating contest consisting of nine contestants. “There were probably 300-400 people there watching,” Maldonado said.

Recent high school graduate Brecken Maher claimed the eating championship by consuming 11 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

“The park was full. We had a lot of vendors and games,” Maldonado said. She added that about 200 swimmers hit the pool for free swimming that day.

On Saturday, July 25, Scobey was the host of the Eastern AA divisional swim meet. The divisional attracted more than 400 swimmers and a couple of thousand spectators. Scobey’s pool was built in 2013-2014.

“The park was full with tents,” Maldonado said.

Swimming lessons during the summer included six different levels along with a parent/child class. Scobey was fortunate for have 19 lifeguards this year.

An exciting new addition is a splash pad this year. Two floodlights were added for night swim.

The splash pad will remain open, weather permitting, until Oct 1.
