Museum Opens With New Attractions
People should check out the giant strides that have been made at the Wolf Point Area Museum during the winter. The museum opened its doors for visitors late last week.
Montie Page, curator, is excited about the progress being made with the new addition, which includes cubicles of different historical parts of the community including a movie theater, radio station, blacksmith shop, horse wagon and sleigh, automobile shop, newspaper shop and hospital.
Page noted that Dr. Mark Zilkoski donated an examination table and X-ray machine while the clinic donated photos of past physicians for the hospital’s area.
After museum board member Jim Marmon and high school students started construction work on the expansion project last school year, Page worked during the winter months. Build Pro Construction also performed labor for the project.
“We’re trying to make it look real nice,” Page said. “It will be a work in progress for quite a while.”
More donations are needed to keep building on to the expansion project. A donation of used lumber from Carquest also was a benefit for the project. “We’re utilizing it and giving it a new life,” Page explained. “When people donate like that, it helps us a bunch.”
Along with viewing the regular museum area, visitors will also be able to receive guided tours of the expansion.
The traditional part of the museum also has a fresher look to it this season.
“We’ve been changing things around and adding more items,” Page said. “I will move and change stuff all summer long.”
The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. There is no admission charge.
“We want to make it so people are interested to see what’s going on,” Page said.
