Wolf Point Students Qualify For Nationals At State Event
Wolf Point had three students qualify for the national competition during the National History Day state meet held in Bozeman.
“We did really well,” Tara Thomas, who is advisor for Wolf Point’s program, said. “This is our first year. We had three kids who really followed with what they are interested in.”
She explained the program provided impactful learning in social science for the junior high students involved.
Wolf Point High School senior Jayla BigTalk qualified for nationals with her senior individual exhibit. In addition, She received a special excellence in indigenous history and culture award from the Montana Historical Society.
Kailayla Villaluz, a junior, earned national qualification for her documentary regarding the forced sterilization of indigenous women.
In the junior high division, Evelyn Turcotte qualified for nationals for her presentation regarding boarding schools.
The national competition is scheduled at the University of Baltimore during June.
National History Day is a nationally recognized academic enrichment program that promotes the study of history in schools. Modeled after science fairs, it encourages students to take a creative approach to studying history, fostering critical thinking and research skills.
