School’s Track Work Delayed Until Mid-May

After discussions with officials from a track building company, Wolf Point school officials agreed to delay the completion of the project until mid-May.

“The weather’s not there,” Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins explained. “That’s the issue.”

There was some hope that the track company could start completing the project in April, but requirements are to have 10 consecutive days when the temperature doesn’t dip below 45 degrees in order to finish the project.

“That’s been an issue,” Perkins said of not having warmer weather.

Wolf Point was scheduled to host both the Class B district and divisional meets this year. As of now, the district track meet is scheduled for May 16 in Fairview and the divisional meet is planned for May 2223 in Havre.

Last June, the Wolf Point School Board decided to accept a bid of $1.495 million for a post-tensioned track by Tarkett Sports.

At an earlier meeting, Perkins recommended going with the less expensive scrape and resurface process for a track renovation. The bid for that project was $412,460. The idea of doing only the scrape and resurface process suffered a hit when Jerod Petrino of Tarkett Sports examined the track in late May 2025 and determined that approach would improve the track for just a couple of years because of its poor condition.

After that report, Perkins said the post-tensioned track is the best path in the long run. Trustees delayed their decision until unanimously agreeing to fund the post-tensioned track a week later.
