Orozco Transferred To County Jail In Idaho

Froid’s Roberto Orozco-Ramirez has been transferred to Jefferson County Jail in Rigby, Idaho, as of Monday morning, Apirl 20, following months of detention in Great Falls.

Government lawyers requested the dismissal of an illegal reentry charge against Orozco April 14, effectively ending the criminal case against him. Chief District Judge Brian Morris granted the government’s unopposed motion to dismiss, but Orozco remains in legal limbo while the U.S. Attorney’s Office decides how to proceed.

“We are waiting for the lawyers to tell us what is happening and where they are moving him,” Yoana Lazcano Orozco said on Monday.

Roberto Orozco was taken from the Cascade County Detention Center April 16 following Judge Morris’s ruling and held briefly at an ICE detention facility in Havre before being returned to Great Falls April 17. He was transferred to Jefferson County April 21.

Attorney Laura Christoffersen confirmed at press time that a writ of habeas corpus was filed for Orozco April 18. A habeas petition requires law enforcement or prison officials to bring a detained person before a court and justify their confinement.
