Woman Says Shelter Needed
Hubbard’s Cupboard Continues Providing In Area
Wolf Point resident Linda Hubbard continues to provide a lift for those who might feel forgotten in the community. Starting in 2023, she decided to volunteer at “Hubbard’s Cupboard” with the goal of offering clothes, food and other items to struggling individuals.
“It’s for the homeless or anybody in need to get what they need,” Hubbard explained.
She started the service when she volunteered with Pastor Arch Woodstock and his wife, Sandy, at Community Bible Church. After the Woodstocks moved out of the area, Hubbard felt the need to continue offering the needed items.
“God has a way of handing the torch to the person who’s standing in the right place at the right time,” Hubbard explained. “And, there I was, holding that torch.”
After other locations didn’t work out, she decided to have the donated materials available at her home at 121 Indian St. It’s open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“I just felt that the need was there,” she said of having the items at her home.
Available items include clothes that range from kids’ sizes all the way to XXX. The large variety of items has included winter coats, hats and gloves.
Food and personal items are also among the selections.
“If I have something specific that I need, I mention it in my newsletter,” Hubbard said. “It has worked out really well.”
She is extremely thankful for the donations that she receives. She mentions First Baptist Church and Gospel Fellowship Church as being consistent givers. Gospel Fellowship holds a monthly food drive to help the cause.
“And I have people specifically order stuff and send it to me,” Hubbard said.
She mentions her “God moments” when people donate an item and a person then comes in a short time later needing that exact piece.
“A lot of things donated are brand new,” Hubbard said. “I have so much. It’s a full-time job.”
In addition, she offers religious books to the people coming in. She has written 10 books herself including her own life story, The Journey To Find Me.
Although the service is important, Hubbard’s main new goal is establishing a homeless shelter at
the former United Dakota Presbyterian Church. She has sent a grant request to the government for $33,000. She has also asked Joel Osteen of the televised Lakewood Church located in Houston, Texas, for financial assistance.
“They really need a place like that where they can stay,” Hubbard explained about the need for a shelter.
In the meantime, she will continue assisting people at “Hubbard’s Cupboard” the best that she can.
“I enjoy it. Helping them makes me forget my problems,” she laughed. “I do what I can at my age.”
