Lustre Shoots To Contend In Eastern C Track Race
After placing fourth as a team in the boys’ division at the state meet a year ago, Lustre Christian is aiming for another strong season in 2026.
“Our goal is always to qualify as many people for state as we can,” Lustre Coach Lynn Unrau said. “Making everybody faster is my goal.”
The Lions feature 20 high school athletes including 11 boys.
Leading the Lions is senior Johnslee Pierre, who was a triple state champion last season. He earned state titles in the 300-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump. He hopes to also win a state title in the 400-meter dash this season.
Prestyn Klatt is also back after placing second in the 1600-meter run last season as a sophomore.
Diek Olfert, a senior, qualified for state in the long jump and 800 last season.
The Lions should be strong in the 1600-meter relay again this year with the return of Pierre, Olfert and KJ Brown.
Lustre’s girls’ team features sophomore Sidney Klatt, who qualified for state in the 1600 and 3200 last season.
Lauryn Holzrichter, a junior, returns after advancing to the state meet in the 300-meter hurdles last year.
The girls’ team should receive a lift with sophomore Kencia Brown competing in sprints and the javelin.
Freshmen Samantha Neufeld and Grace Byers could also help Lustre’s point totals this season.
Coach Unrau said the Lions lack experience in throwing events, but Lustre has sold strong throwers.
