Gustafson Arrested On Drug Charges

Matthew Gustafson is facing five charges, including one felony, in Roosevelt County District Court.

Charges include criminal possession of dangerous drugs, obstructing a peace officer or other public servant and three counts of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Feb. 19, a highway patrol trooper initiated a traffic stop near Third Avenue and Main Street in Wolf Point. The driver could not provide any driver’s license, registration or insurance information.

The officer observed a passenger in the second row of the vehicle. Based on the officer’s training and experience, he suspected that the passenger was attempting to evade detection by hiding behind the front passenger’s seat and utilizing the dark tinted windows.

The passenger identified himself as Matthew Gustafson. He had an active warrant for his arrest.

When the officer attempted to arrest Gustafson, he refused direct orders to put his hands behind his back and stop reaching toward his waistband.

During a search, the officer found two glass pipes with dark tarry brown as well as white chalky residue, with a small metal spoon with black residue on it. After Gustafson was transported to the Roosevelt County Detention Center, two small heat-sealed cut straws containing a crystalline substance were found in between his several layers of clothing as well as a kind of needle commonly seen with drug use.
