Candidates File For County, State Elections
Roosevelt County residents will have only one contested municipal race in this year’s election.
Deputy Jason Baker and former county sheriff’s office employee Wes Headdress have filed for the sheriff’s position. Sheriff Jason Frederick announced prior to the start of filing that he will not seek re-election.
The filing deadline was Wednesday, March 4.
Gordon Oelkers will be running unopposed for the commissioner position representing District 1. He has served in that position for 10 years to represent the east side of the county.
“During my time as commissioner, I have gained valuable experience in budgeting, maintaining a responsible county budget and improving services,” Oelkers said in a prior interview.
Highlights of Oelkers’ second term in office have included being elected president of the Montana Association of Counties.
Thomas Bleicher is the lone candidate for county attorney.
Other incumbents who filed were Betty Romo as treasurer/assessor and Tracy Miranda as clerk and recorder.
Marvin Youpee filed for Justice of the Peace for Post #1. Tara Nickoloff filed for Justice of the Peace for Post #2.
In state races, Democrats Lance Fourstar and Natalie O’Neal have filed for the House District 31 position. Incumbent Frank Smith is not seeking re-election.
Republicans Valerie Moore and Linda Harmon along with Democrats Tess Fahlgren and Rachel Sundheim have filed for the House District 29 position.
In District 30, Republican incumbent Morgan Thiel and Democrat Jason Boeshore are seeking election.
On the federal level, U.S. Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., shockingly withdrew from the election last week. Republicans who have filed for the Senate seat currently held by Daines include Lee Calhoun, Charles Walking Child, Kurt Alme and Seth Bodnar.
Democrats seeking the Senate seat are Michael Hummert, Alani Bankhead, Michael Black Wolf, Reilly Neill and Christopher Kehoe. Independent Seth Bodnar has also filed. Also filing were libertarians Kyle Austin and Tom Jandron.
Filing for the U.S. representative position for Montana’s second congressional district were Republican incumbent Troy Downing and Democrats Brian Miller, Sam Lux and Jonathan Windy Boy. Also filing were libertarians Patrick McCracken and independent Kimberly Persico.
Candidates for Public Service Commissioner in District 1 are Democrat Angeline Cheek and Republicans Jeff Pattison and Jeremy Trebas.
