New Homes Hit Wolf Point’s Market
The two new homes, which came to Wolf Point in December 2004, are now officially on the market.
The homes, located on Custer Street, were purchased by the city via a grant from the Montana Department of Commerce through the assistance of Great Northern Development Corporation.
“I’m very happy they are on the market right now,” Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said. “It’s very good to have more options.”
He noted potential buyers must go through an application process to ensure they are qualified through HUD requirements. The applications are available at Wolf Point’s city office.
Because of the HUD requirements, entities such as the school district, tribes and hospital are not eligible to purchase the houses.
“There’s been a lot of steps along the way,” Dschaak said of the process of having the houses available for sale.
The mayor noted the process started about three years ago when the city started to clean up the two locations including taking down old apartment buildings. One of the buildings needed to go through an abatement. Water and sewer lines then needed to be installed.
“There were multiple steps involved in the cleanup,” Dschaak said.
He said that thanks to the funds received from the State of Montana and the federal government, the project had no impact on the city’s finances.
Dschaak thanked the Great Northern Development Corporation for being instrumental in the project.
Funds received for the properties will go into a special account for possible similar projects by the city.
Dschaak said the main objective now is selling the two houses before discussing what to potentially do with proceeds.
Each of the houses is listed for $165,000. Each of the houses has three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, central air and forced air heating.
