The Poplar Tribal Elves entertained their community again on Tuesday night with the help of adult volunteers and school personnel.

Staff from Poplar School took the basketball court against the Tribal Elves’ adult volunteers. The trick was that they had to wear inflatable outfits, looking like dogs, during the game.

The school staff ended up winning the entertaining contest by a 24-15 margin. The game featured two 12-minute halves and was kept under control by referee Connie Wittak.

“We did it to give everybody something to do,” Sunee Erickson, one of the Tribal Elves’ main coordinators, said. “It’s just a community event.”

The night also featured a chili cook-off, which included about five entries.

The aim of the Tribal Elves is providing fun events in Poplar for families and children.

Future activities for Trival Elves includes going to Faith Home around Valentine’s Day to present flowers, blankets and puzzles.

Another plan is to have an Easter carnival.

Erickson feels that it’s likely the second annual inflatable basketball game will occur.

“It was pretty fun. We probably won’t use dogs next time, but something else,” she said. “We had a decent turnout.”
