Sentences Occur At District Court Hearings

Two individuals were sentenced during hearings in district court on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Charissa Josette Boast was sentenced for the charge of possession of dangerous drugs.

Roosevelt County Attorney Thomas Bleicher recommended that Boast serve five years with the Montana Department of Corrections with no time suspended.

Defense attorney Sally Kay Hickok argued that Boast goes to counseling and works full time. Hickok said it doesn’t benefit society to have Boast separated from her expected baby. She added that the women’s prison is at over capacity in Montana.

District Judge Benjamin Fosland said that as county attorney in Sheridan County that he dealt with Boast for many years. The judge said it seems that Boast has made more progress during the last six months than the previous 10 years.

Fosland ruled to give Boast a five-year suspended with the Department of Corrections, with all five years suspended. Fosland said he is encouraged with Boast’s progress, but he will be watching her closely. She was given credit for 37 days time served. She was ordered to pay all fines and fees.

Taylor Douglas Nygard was sentenced for the misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The criminal mischief charge was reduced from a felony.

Nygard was sentenced to six months in the county jail for each count, all suspended. He was ordered to pay restitution of $2,954.98 for breaking a piece of the county’s front end loader’s window.
