Scobey Hospital Receives $500,000 Grant

Daniels Memorial Healthcare Center in Scobey has received a $500,000 grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, a significant investment that advances the community’s campaign to replace its aging hospital and strengthen access to high-quality healthcare across northeast Montana.

“This grant is a powerful vote of confidence in our community and in the future of rural healthcare,” said Charlie Cahill, campaign chair.

DMHC has provided hometown healthcare since 1950 and is currently one of the oldest hospital buildings in Montana. As a designated Critical Access Hospital and frontier facility, DMHC serves more than 2,000 patients annually with 25 beds, a 24-hour emergency department, and a rural health clinic. The hospital’s board has concluded that replacing the existing facility is both necessary and essential to meet current standards of care and future community needs. Design for the new hospital is currently under way, with an anticipated groundbreaking in mid-2026. The planned one-level healthcare campus will improve efficiency, patient experience, and long-term sustainability while allowing for future expansion.

“With momentum building and design moving forward, this is a defining moment for our campaign,” Cahill added. “We invite the community and philanthropic partners to continue building on this momentum and ensure that when the doors open, Daniels Memorial Healthcare Center is positioned to serve future generations.”
