Martinez Enjoys Social Part Of Sports

Some athletes like to trash talk with their opponents, Wolf Point High School senior Amya Martinez simply likes to talk with them period.
The two-sport athlete says that track is her favorite sport.
“Track is a very social sport,” Martinez explained. “I like socializing and meeting people.”
She has enjoyed success in track and field as well as having an enjoyable time. Last season, she kept improving throughout the season in the shot put and capped the year by placing sixth at the state meet in the event.
“I didn’t expect to place at state,” Martinez said.
She’s looking forward to the upcoming track campaign. “I’m very excited,” Martinez said. She says her goal is to end up higher on the state meet’s podium.
She also qualified for the state meet in the discus last season. “I’m hoping my movement,” she said of her aim for the discus, As one of two seniors on the girls’ basketball team, Martinez is enjoying the current season.
She likes how the teammates bond. “We have good chemistry,” Martinez said.
What is her goal for the season? “Just leave with a happy heart,” she answered.
Her favorite class is child development.
“I’m learning a lot of new things about newborns and child development,” she explained. “It’s a fun class.”
Her favorite teacher is Leslie Larson. “She’s very open,” Martinez said.
After high school, Martinez hopes to compete in track at the collegiate level.
She’s leaning toward studying psychology and art therapy.
