Poplar Girls Fall To Glasgow
Poplar’s girls’ basketball team came up short against an explosive Glasgow squad, 88-52, in Poplar on Thursday, Dec. 18.
After hoops by Jenaeya Moran, Frankie Gourneau and Braelyn Nordwick kept the Indians close at 20-15 in the first quarter, Glasgow ran off the final nine points of the period for a 29-15 lead. A three-pointer from way out by Mayzie Yoakam and four points by Joely Chappell highlighted the streak.
The scoring of Yoakam led the Scotties to a 40-18 advantage in the second period until Emma Belton scored inside and Nordwick hit a free throw for the Indians.
Moran connected on a three-point shot in the period’s final minute, but Glasgow held a 47-24 halftime advantage.
The scoring of Chappell and Yoakam led the Scotties on an 11-0 run early in the third quarter to increase the margin to 60-26.
Glasgow went on to hold a 68-34 advantage at the end of the period.
Three-pointers by Nordwick, Moran and Ashlyn Bull Chief highlighted play for Poplar in the fourth period.
Poplar’s top scorers were Nordwick with 15, Moran with 13 and Bull Chief with 11 points.
Also scoring were Gourneau with seven, Belton with four and Makenzie Crawford with two points.
Yoakam led Glasgow with 40 points including eight three-pointers. Chappell added 20 points and Ava Runner had 14 points.
