Commissioners Support Fertilizer Plant Project
Roosevelt County commissioners are pleased that the Eastern Montana Fertilizer Project is coming closer to becoming a reality in the eastern part of the county.
It was recently announced that Cyan H2 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with KBR to support the development of the project. The project aims to produce 650,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer from natural gas annually.
Officials say that the project serves Montana and national interests in that the proposed plant would more than halve the country’s dependency on urea fertilizer imported from Russia and therefore greatly benefit American farmers.
Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said that all the off-takes are sold now for the project.
Commissioners have experienced positive discussions with the federal delegation from Montana or their representatives in the past.
After a public comment was made regarding the county’s role regarding the Feda apartments on Edgar Street that suffered severe fire damage, Commissioner Robert Toavs noted that discussions were held with other commissioners, fire officials and Wolf Point officials about possible damage to nearby structures. It was decided the equipment the county has could handle a tear down in place strategy much quicker than the city and/or tribes.
Toavs said there’s now less to take out from the building. He hopes the city takes advantage and removes the rest of the debris.
During the weekly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 25, commissioners agreed to purchase two new trailer for the weed department. Total cost is $15,400.
Hired was Macala Balikian for aging services to help with Bainville’s senior meals.
During commissioners’ reports, Toavs said that blade operators and truck drivers urge other drivers to slow down when they see county trucks coming.
