Culbertson School Board Approves May Election

The Culbertson School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. Trustees present were Chris Petersen, Chair; Wendy Becker, Amber Fox, Lisa Steppler and Verlin Steppler. Representatives were Nicole Simonsen, Janessa Parenteau, Dave Solem and Lora Finnicum. Visitors were recognized.

A motion was approved to pay the November bills, approve investments, note cash and extra-curricular balances.

Reports were presented. The Veterans’ Day program was well attended and appreciated.

Several students were selected for Northwest Music Festival in Minot and Northern Plains Music Festival in Dickinson. FFA students attended Ag Expo in Bozeman.

Parenteau has training materials from the Capturing Kids Hearts workshop available with goals to implement through high school. Opportunity Bank has requested the district open a new bank account away from the “pooled” county account.

New payroll and claims warrants will need to be ordered. Simonsen would not be recommending enrolling in Bridged insurance at this time.

The Curriculum Committee scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 3:35 p.m. to consider weighted GPAs.

The freshman class was approved for gym cleaning starting in December.

The indemnity bond was approved for replacement. An increase in adult lunch prices was approved from $2.25 to $2.75 as a result of the OPI food service audit.

A motion was passed to adopt student handbook language regarding student insurance.

A resolution was passed calling for a trustee and levy election for May 5, 2026, from noon until 8 p.m. The poll site will be the Culbertson School lunchroom, with election judges Raedelle Aspenlieder, Bev Raaum and Beth Hekkel. Alternates are Jo Nelson, Ardis Oelkers and Elaine Jasper.

Notice for public comment for non-agenda items was given. Question were raised regarding the process for selecting coaches and the evaluation process. December Athletic Committee meeting will be scheduled.

Next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 6:30 p.m.
