Fundraising Efforts Under Way To Improve Local Swimming Pool
With the goal of maintaining a quality slide at the Wolf Point swimming pool, fundraising efforts are now taking place in the community.
Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak explained that Mike Leinen, Wolf Point/Poplar branch president for Independence Bank, approached him about a possible city project where the bank could provide funds in order to match local donations.
Dschaak said a few ideas were tossed around, but providing a new ladder, railing and platform for the pool’s slide seemed to be the best fit.
“It’s not the slide itself,” Dschaak explained. He added that a full slide would cost at least $25,000. “It needs to meet every code for a municipal type pool.” The goal is to raise a minimum of $6,400 for the ladder, railing and platform. The bank has offered to match donations made to the fund by Dec. 25, up to the first $3,200.
Dschaak is very grateful for the bank’s assistance with the bank.
The mayor is also pleased that the Wolf Point Lions Club has agreed to provide a fund so the donations can be collected.
To make donations, contact Gary Johnson, Jerald Petersen or any other Lions Club member, or make a donation at the Wolf Point branch of Independence Bank.
Dschaak said if donations exceed the initial goal, the additional funds could be used to update benches at the pool or to provide more water features for younger children.
“It would be used to improve the functionality and enjoyment of the pool,” Dschaak said.
At some point in the next few years, the pool will need a new membrane lining. The current one was put in about 10 years ago. Besides that project, the pool should be in good shape to start its 2026 season.
“We’re at full capacity almost every day during the open swim times,” Dschaak said of attendance.
