The Fort Kipp Celebration enjoyed favorable weather Aug. 22-24. The celebration is held annually in the town of Fort Kipp between Culbertson and Brockton. It is the second to last celebration of the local season.

Veterans presented the Eagle Staff, United States flag, Canadian flag and the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribal flag at each grand entry, followed by celebration royalty.

The Fort Kipp Celebration Committee raises money throughout the year and includes the following committee members Aaliyah Longtree, Claudia Thompson, Jayden Menz, Easton, Weston and Sundown Boxer and Pauline Boxer.

Flag bearer was Pauline Lee. Derrick Long Hair was advisor. The lodge keeper was Devryn Jon Long Hair. Xavier Rattling Thunder was secretary. Drum keeper was Amari Rae Bighorn and announcer was Patrick Okute’ Sica’ Ricker. Ceejay Black Dog was arena director.

“We had such a great time,” Tina BetsHisMedicine told the Northern Plains Independent.

“We went to the HPDP walk in the morning and came back in the afternoon. My grandson, Spencer James Renz Speed, was dancing. My husband Dave’s niece, Nayana St Germaine, had a special on Sunday so we watched that too. Dave is a Fort Kipper so we like to be at that celebration. Great weather.”

There were five grand entries throughout the weekend with a feed held at the Black Dog Community Center. Audio and live-streaming was provided by Toxic Sounds. There were many specials held.

Antoinette Wise Spirit was celebration princess, with Winter Brugh serving as princess attendant. Junior princess was Neyanna St. Germaine, with attendant Raegan Cooper. Kazzley La-Fromboise was mini-princess; Jessa Lambert, mini princess attendant. Kiyah Smith was traveling princess.

The last celebration on the local calendar is Poplar Indian Days, Aug. 28-31.
