Bainville Council Hears About Break-Ins

The regular meeting of the Bainville Town Council was called to order by Mayor Toby Romo at the Bainville Town Hall Aug. 11. Guests included Darrel Rasmussen and Cora Norton.

During public comment, Norton mentioned there have been multiple break-ins around town and suggested everyone lock their belongings. She said she has had activity on her property cameras anywhere from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Norton also asked if there could be anything done about the trains blocking both crossings. She said the crossings were blocked for over an hour while there was a fire burning outside of Bainville and firefighters could not get into town to get the tender truck.

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department update for July 2025 was shared. There were 13 calls for service, zero arrests and one citation.

During old business, it was reported a letter was included with the utility bills that were sent out on July 31. The letter advised residents to look at their properties for possible nuisance violations (list of violations were included in the letter) and stated that the town will send nuisance violation letters in September. The council decided to send violation letters to the first 10 residents listed.

Chet McLean was approved to complete the annual financial report. Regular meeting minutes dated July 14 were approved. Claims and journal vouchers were approved in the amount of $23,739.76. Payroll was approved in the amount of $10,533.19. The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, September 15, at Bainville Town Hall beginning at 7 p.m.
