WPCO Planning For Back To School Bash

The Wolf Point Community Organization started to plan for its Back to School Bash during its monthly meeting held on July 21.

The event is tentatively scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Silver Wolf Casino. Officials have ordered 300-350 backpacks and water bottles for the giveaway. WPCO will cover enrolled families first and then move on to associate members.

“We’re throwing around ideas for prizes,” WPCO chair Holly Hamilton said.

Some youth will help stuff bags as part as their community service done in exchange for WPCO funding projects.

Officials noted that all 400 carnival tickets were given out during the Stampede carnival in July.

Donations approved from the activities committee were $2,500 for the Lord’s Table and $2,500 for the Wadopana powwow.

Donation approved from the youth committee was $2,000 for Skillz & Drillz basketball tournament and camps.

During reports, discussion took place about potential changes with the Fort Peck Housing Authority. TEB member Roxanne Gourneau said it’s important for community involvement on the housing board.

Wolf Point housing representative Grace Pipe said one rumor is that some TEB members wish to get WPCO

get rid of housing commissioner positions. She thanked Thomas Bauer for taking charge in the finance department. Val Moran is serving as acting director. “We’re taking

it one day at a time,” Pipe said.

Gourneau urged residents to attend TEB meetings to get informed and express their viewpoints.
